2ND EDITION OF THE AFRICAN SCHOOL ON CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION 30TH JUNE TO 11TH JULY 2025

The Second African School in Climate Change and Its Adaptation – Now Underway

After a successful first edition in 2024 that brought together 28 students from four countries, this year’s school is building on that momentum with **30 students currently participating**, and the ambition to grow to **40 students** from across Africa, Europe, and North America.

This two-week intensive program is designed to equip students with a deeper understanding of climate change and adaptation, especially in the African context. Participants are actively engaged in inaugural courses delivered by expert faculty from the Institute of Climate Change and Adaptation, based at the University of Nairobi.

Collaborative group projects are already in motion, bringing together diverse teams of African and non-African students. The program also includes four high-level conferences, two insightful field visits, and immersive cultural activities such as an introduction to East African history and culture and a Kiswahili language course. During their free time, students have the chance to go on a safari at Nairobi National Park and explore the National Museum of Kenya. Many are already planning to travel within Kenya after the school ends

Objectives (Ongoing)

Led by the Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation and the Office of University Advancement & Institutional Development at the University of Nairobi, the 2025 African School aims to:

  • Attract highly motivated international students eager to understand climate change challenges in Africa
  • Strengthen students’ scientific and practical foundations in climate adaptation
  • Foster international collaboration and networking among students from all continents
  • Highlight the academic and research strengths of African universities
  • Promote the cultural richness and global relevance of the East African region
  • Showcase the University of Nairobi’s academic environment and facilities
