To be the department of choice for innovative teaching and learning, research, consultancy, community service, and training in the broad field of Earth and Climate Sciences.


To build the human capacity necessary to address the current/emerging challenges and uncertainties facing Planet Earth in its four spheres - the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere - and to take advantage of opportunities for the sustainable development and good management of the earth’s natural assets and resources and in their socio-ecological contexts through teaching, action-oriented research, development of innovative technologies, community engagement, and provision of expert advice for practice and policy at local, national, regional and global levels.
