Nairobi University Meteorological Association, is an association that brings together undergraduate, post- graduates and masters  students of Meteorology and applied Meteorology and other persons interested in the field of Meteorology.

The University of Nairobi Geology Students Association is an aggregated body of the geology students’ fraternity.  Its main function is to unite, promote and support members, as N.U.G.S.A we believes that more can be achieved when tackling geological challenges together. Members are students taking Bachelor of Science, I20 taking Geology units, Bachelor of Science in Geology, I13 and Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Geoscience, I15.

N.U.G.S.A is the umbrella organization for both The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (A.A.P.G) and The Society Of Exploration Geophysicist (S.E.G).  One of the main objectives is to unite and support member activities by encouraging and facilitating knowledge sharing and by inviting experts in relevant geological areas.  N.U.GS.A aims to bring to its member’s attention the departmental issues and to work collaboratively in finding solutions.

Proposed Activities

  • Monthly discussion group meetings with PhD and M.Sc. students from ICCA and other departments to share challenges and opportunities in their research journey
  • Short trainings on research writing, data analysis tools, funding options, publishing, research ethics, communicating research etc
  • Connection to opportunities for further training and, funding opportunities including “sponsorship” from senior researchers for funding applications
  • Technical assistance from mentors and other specialists in statistics, GIS, data analysis tools, thesis proofreading etc.
  • Writing grants winning proposals
  • Kick starting your career – how to package ones soft and hard skills (how to write research statements, motivation letters etc)
  • Presentation skills
  • Pairing between senior and junior researchers for mentorship and guidance
