2022 APN AND NEXT GEN RESEARCH METHODS WORKSHOP IN CASABLANCA, MOROCCO SEPTEMBER 26-29, 2022

Lilian N. S. Kong’ani was part of the 18 fellows in Africa who were awarded a six months Individual Research Fellowship by the African Peacebuilding Network (APN) of the Social Science Research Council (SSRC).

DR. LILIAN N. S. KONG’ANI PARTICIPATED IN THE 2022 APN AND NEXT GEN RESEARCH METHODS WORKSHOP IN CASABLANCA, MOROCCO SEPTEMBER 26-29, 2022

The funds for the award have been provided by Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY). As part of the fellowship, Dr. Kong’ani participated in the 2022 SSRC’s APN and Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa (Next Gen) Research Methods Workshop in Casablanca, Morocco. The four days intensive workshop was held from September 26 -29, 2022 in collaboration with the African Institute for Peacebuilding and conflict transformation (AIPECT). The workshop provided an opportunity for capacity building in conducting high-quality research to inform and impact on peacebuilding and climate change resilience and adaption discourses and actions in Africa and beyond. The workshop was organized in working groups and One-on-One sessions facilitated by senior academics and experts drawn from across the globe, keynotes Lectures including on Social Science Research in Africa in an Age of Disruptions, and Observations on Observation, and a panel discussion on Navigating Academic Research and Scholarly Traditions in a Changing World: African Reflections on Challenges and Opportunities. The workshop also included a visit to historical Sites and Tour of Rabat to learn and appreciate diverse efforts and contributions towards peacebuilding and climate change discourses. The workshop promoted networking between fellows, senior academics, practitioners, and policymakers. Dr. Kong’ani is currently working towards implementation of her research project on Women, climate-induced conflicts and peacebuilding initiatives among the pastoral communities in Kenya.
