WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY VISIT TO THE 1ST JOINT SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM

On Wednesday 5th June, 2024, Siâna, Nyokabi, Michele and Maya attended Kenya's first Joint Scientific Conference. It was an important day as we were also commemorating World Environment Day.
The girls attended a lecture by a leading geologist, Prof. Daniel Olago who taught that Kenya's biodiversity is very important for the economic success of Kenya. They also learnt that some lakes in modern Kenya were formed over 780,000 years ago and that some lakes will eventually disappear due to climate change and normal tectonic activity!

3RD REGIONAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE - CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The National Land Commission in conjunction with National Research Fund (NRF), Ministry of Lands, Technical University of Kenya (TUK) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) invites researchers, policy makers, practitioners, private sector players, civil societies, and other stakeholders to submit papers to be presented during the 3rd Regional Research Conference to be held on 12th to 13th June, 2024 in Nairobi.

 

Weather Balloon Launch Event on 1st March 2024 at KMD headquarters in Nairobi - RIFT JET Project

The Turkana Jet is an equatorial low-level jet forming in East Africa carrying moisture from the Indian Ocean. Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) officers working out of Marsabit, North West Kenya, were the first to identify these winds. The winds form in the Turkana Channel, between the Ethiopian Highlands to the northeast and Kenya Highlands to the southwest.
